Each Must Account For Every Idle Word

This painting was one that the artist had wanted to do for some time. It was completed on January 25, 2004. Matthew 12:36 was the scripture that inspired the piece. Whenever one of God’s children feel intimidated or debased by someone giving them a hard time about their faith or life of holiness, they can remember that each person will have to give an account on judgment day for every idle word and action that they have said or done. In times of peer pressure or persecution this reality is a strong comfort. Yet this fact also serves as a reminder to each person that they must not be careless with their words and deeds.

The painting shows each person being elevated out of the crowd. They are not surrounded by their peers, relatives, friends or any other support as they are answering the questioning of the Great Judge. A huge screen displays the words and scene in question, played back for all to see. Books filled with records will be opened to validate the scene. Revelations 20:11-13 “The I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from Whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. The sea gave up the dead, who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works”.

The power and majesty of God can be seen in the lighting and rolling clouds around the throne. The white robe almost shines with power and purity. God’s face is as a shining light from Whom all the earth and heaven try to flee away.
